Google advertising [Mar. 11th, 2009|12:36 pm]
One of the things I really dislike is the idea that I have to opt out rather than opt in to a service, it now appears that after buying double click google will be monitoring your web browsing via a cookie in order to better target advertising to you;

http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=14340

to opt out;

I suppose I should be grateful that there is an opt out but dammit it should be my choice to opt in.

New phone required [Nov. 3rd, 2008|05:30 pm]
So I need a new phone and I've narrowed it down to three candidates but am having difficulty choosing between them, so I present all three for your delight, delectation and hopefully someone will point out a flaw or feature that is a must have.
  1. The iPhone  shop.carphonewarehouse.com/pay-monthly/apple/iphone-16gb-black/o2/ap308/
  2. The G1  www.carphonewarehouse.com/commerce/servlet/gben-server-PageServer
  3. The Nokia N96  shop.carphonewarehouse.com/pay-monthly/nokia/n96-black/o2/n4518/
My basic requirements are internet connectivity, and the ability to phone and do text.

So anyone?

A Letter to Whom it May Concern [Aug. 4th, 2008|10:24 am]
Dear Sir or Sirs or even Madame and Mademoiselle's,

I refer you to the incident of Friday the second of August, whereupon one of you fuckers stole my car, now I realise that you possibly had a greater need for it, what with me merely using it to learn to drive, a medical emergency perhaps or a rescue mission for a small dog trapped in the canal but to you, you little shit weasel, I do propose that it wasn't yours to purloin in the first place.

Please forgive what you may regard as unnecessarily common and vulgar imprecations, however give me back my little fourteen year old, beaten up, scratched but ultimately mine, car.

So in closing, I hope that karma will pay you back with syphilis and an unnatural love for rodents of unusual size, which will lead to social ostracism and the withered hopes of your small dreams turning to nightmares.

Fears of the Dark [Jun. 21st, 2008|03:54 pm]
http://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/films/fears-of-the-dark/

A bit of a mixed bag, some genuinely scary animation and some bits that just don't seem to fit.

Best bits are by Charles Burns http://www.amazon.com/Black-Hole-Charles-Burns/dp/037542380X

and Blutch http://www.primalinea.com/pdn/images/index.html

The man with the dogs is going to make it into a game session someday, it's an interesting project to bring together a number of different animators\artists into one film but ti does mean that overall it's a bit disjointed, so saying I would recommend the film and the music really adds to the atmosphere.

The Wackness [Jun. 21st, 2008|03:48 pm]
ttp://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/films/the-wackness/

Not a bad film but not great, Ben Kingsley was excellent and Josh Peck's character has an endearing loserish quality but the film never really takes off, it's amusing in parts but doesn't feel as if it really knows what it's trying to say. A coming of age story that staggers to a conclusion, sometimes amusing along the way but not consistent enough.

Similar but not as good as "little Miss Sunshine"

Blood Car [Jun. 21st, 2008|03:37 pm]
So the first film of the Edinburgh Film Festival and this year I'm determined to try and give a little review of the films before some time in the next year, so hopefully this will be the first post on films in a series over the next few days.

Blood Car

http://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/films/blood-car/

The plot is nice and simple; oil prices have risen to the point that no-one but the very rich can afford to drive and thus it's a big status symbol. Our hero is a vegan who is attempting to devise a way to fuel an engine with wheatgrass, an accident in his lab leads him to discover that blood will drive the engine and this leads onto vegans gone bad as the power of sex compels him to find new sources of blood.

Ignore the political tropes of blood for oil the director wasn't really aiming for that, sure you can read in all kinds of messages but the film is basically a laugh fest, don't watch if you are easily offended, otherwise if you like Troma style films then you'll like this.

Greatest Villians [Jun. 16th, 2008|08:12 pm]
The Guardian on Saturday had a list of 10 of the best villians

http://books.guardian.co.uk/review/story/0,,2285431,00.html

or for those who don't like links, behind the cut;

I quite like this list but would want to add;

Victor Von Doom for sheer megalomania.

Mrs Coulter before book 3 for the class and style,

and a trio; Cardinal Richelieu, Milady De Winter and Comte de Rochefort

I will also admit a soft spot for The Emperor

Who would you add to the list?

Annoyance [Jun. 10th, 2008|04:22 pm]
Playing football last night I managed to break a small bone in my right hand.

I'm now stuck with a cast and inability to do anything as I'm so right handed.

Gah.

This post brought to you by the power of left handed typing and perseverance.

Work Social Ideas [Jul. 13th, 2007|02:10 pm]
So my work has been steadily going down hill over the years as to people socializing, and we seem to have sunk into little groups of co-workers who don't really know each over and no longer even go to the pub together.

I want to change this but I'm coming up blank on ideas. What we've done in the past is thing's like going to the pub, have wine tastings, going to the climbing wall. What I'm looking for is inspiration, I should be able to get some money out of the company to fund something or other.

So I turn to LJ for inspiration, what sort of team stuff have you done? What would you like to do?

Film request [May. 8th, 2007|04:14 pm]
Does anyone know where I could buy La Revolution Francaise on dvd or even if it's available on dvd? IMDB

It comes in two parts "Les Annees Lumieres" and "Les Annees Terribles" it would need to be the English version or at least with subtitles.

I've had no luck trying to track it down.

MSN [Feb. 8th, 2006|06:46 pm]
If you are using msn you might want to consider encrypting your conversations, at present all conversations are sent in plain text and can be snooped, if so then I've found a nice little tool Secway

Nice and easy to install and has been working like a dream.

Super bowl [Feb. 6th, 2006|01:37 pm]
Well my team won :) not really my team as that's the poor Jets but the team I wanted to win as various friends support them. How I wish however that it was on a Saturday night instead because it totally kills me getting to bed at 3, then not being able to sleep because I'm buzzing about the match and then having to get up for work.

Why is the Super bowl on a Sunday? Tradition I guess; but why did it start on that day?

Happy [Feb. 3rd, 2006|02:49 pm]
I now have a 19" flat screen monitor at work; it's shiny and bright, makes me happy and takes up so much less space than my monitor used to. My eyes appreciate it.

That is all.

A different sort of look [Nov. 18th, 2005|12:04 pm]
So in a fit of pique at life and a general I want to change something I've got a new haircut, I like it, it's funky.

Pictures will follow when I find someone with a digital camera.
